Djo shares breezy new single ‘Potion’

Djo has shared a breezy new Fleetwood Mac-inspired single called ‘Potion’ – check it out below.

Djo, the musical project of Stranger Things actor Joe Keery, will release his new album ‘The Crux’ on April 4 — you can pre-order it here.

The latest preview of the record follows on from previous single releases ‘Basic Being Basic‘ and ‘Delete Ya.’

‘Potion’, according to a press statement, finds Djo in Laurel Canyon. “‘Potion’ is like your favorite pair of blue jeans,” says Keery of the record. “I’d been working on Travis picking when I wrote this song, so it’s kind of like if Harry Nilsson and Lindsey Buckingham had a baby.”

On the acoustic and falsetto-led track, Keery takes on the song’s vocals, acoustic and electric guitar, bass, drums, percussion and Mellotron.

You can listen to the new song here:

Back in February, Djo covered Haim’s single ‘Gasoline’ as part of a new radio session.

The actor and musician visited Triple J to record a track for the station’s ‘Like A Version’ series.

Djo and his live band opted for a laid-back, groovy cover of Haim’s track ‘Gasoline’, which appears on the LA trio’s third and latest album, 2020’s ‘Women In Music Pt. III’.

“I love that album,” Keery explained. “I think they’re such great artists – I love that they’re sisters, and they make music together. I’ve got a big family and my song that we played, ‘Basic…’, my sisters are singing on that. So I thought it would be sort of cool to pay homage to [Haim] for that reason.”

He continued: “I think what I connect to is like, there’s a little edge in the song. And I feel like sometimes in my own personal life, I don’t allow myself to express that edge. But through the song, I feel like I can kind of live in that for a second, and it feels good.”

Djo recently spoke to NME about the process of making his new album and on how he manages to balance his music and acting careers.

“Having this kind of boiling throughout the whole thing… It’s been nice to have something else to work on,” he says about his music career simmering beneath the run of Stranger Things.

“What I did was an extremely unique experience, even in the acting world. People don’t work on things for that long. Can you imagine how sad and weird I’d feel if I was just at home doing nothing? That would be bad for me.”

Djo is due to head out on the road in North America, the UK and Europe later this year in support of the record. Find any remaining tickets here (US/Canada) and here (UK/Ireland).
