Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Lawrence to Lead BAFTA Playback Series

Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Lawrence, Cynthia Erivo and Jeremy Allen White are among the first actors to star in a newly-launched digital series from BAFTA.

BAFTA Playback, sponsored by Samsung, is a six-part series where Hollywood heavyweights are invited on to talk about their career-defining moments and influences, with selected commentary and clips peppered in. Filmed in a bespoke, lounge-style set, complete with memorabilia and personalized nods to each guest’s portfolio, the actors will watch their handpicked scenes from movies and TV shows on a Samsung TV screen.

The first Playback episode with Interstellar star McConaughey premieres on Tuesday, Nov. 4 on BAFTA’s YouTube channel. More installments will follow with actors front and center this awards season, including The Ballad of a Small Player‘s Colin Farrell and Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere star Jeremy Allen White. The next batch of episodes will feature Wicked‘s Cynthia Erivo and Die My Love‘s Jennifer Lawrence before the first season wraps up with Sinners frontman Michael B. Jordan.

Episodes will be released every Tuesday and Thursday until Nov. 20.

The British Academy has over 200,000 subscribers on YouTube and in 2025 alone has accrued over 350 million views across their socials.

“Celebrating outstanding storytelling, and showcasing the craft that goes into making films, games and television is at the heart of what we do at BAFTA, so we are delighted to be able to bring together an exceptional lineup of actors to launch the first BAFTA Playback sponsored by Samsung,” said Emma Baehr, executive director of awards and content at BAFTA.

“What a treat to be able to watch them talk through their creative influences and some of their favorite moments throughout their career,” she added.
