The Wishwall Foundation is set to support Dream International in planting 600,000 trees with farmers in Rwenzori mountain hills to promote environmental conservation and improve livelihoods of the local communities in Bunyangabu district, Western Uganda for a period of 2 years. Dream International is an Environmental Community Based Organization legally registered with the laws of Uganda based in Bunyangabu District Western Uganda .It was founded to Plant trees, restore ecosystems and transform lives.
Biodiversity loss, through land degradation, is a serious threat to the sustainable development activities in Uganda. This is often exacerbated by the lack of knowledge and skills on sustainable land management practices and forest biodiversity conservation. Low levels of awareness and sensitization of the advantages of land restoration among some, combined with lack of consideration for the interests of local communities, often leads to poor public support and participation towards conservation of natural resources.
It is against this backdrop that the Dream International in collaboration with and with financial support from the Wish Wall Foundation develops an initiative to restore degraded lands to promote sustainable biodiversity conservation and improve the livelihoods of local communities of Bunyangabu district western Uganda.
Models and theory of change: The project is based on three models of; a) Linking environment protection to agriculture productivity & income model, b) Farmer group model and c) Cluster model. Dream International believes that, “If farmers are enabled to take advantage of planting native fruit and crop friendly trees as an alternative to adapt to effects of climate change, protect and conserve environment with responsive local government, the agricultural productivity will increase that will lead to food security and improved household incomeâ€.
This project is made possible through Simonetta Lein, great appreciation .
