On May 1, Airbnb welcomed a new category to its arsenal: Icons — immersive stays and experiences hosted by the biggest names in film, television, music, art, sports and more. And the latest offering may very well be its coolest yet. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Incredibles, Airbnb brought Edna Mode’s mansion to life in the West Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles.
There are spots for 60 lucky guests (15 total experiences for up to four guests each) to tour the mansion, check out Edna’s top-secret sketchbook, try on her monochromatic wardrobe, indulge in a selection of hors d’oeuvres and beverages and craft a one-of-a-kind Supersuit in her lab with a team of expert designers. The custom-made Supersuit will be tailored to your unique powers, and shipped to you within a few weeks of your visit.
Here’s how it works: From May 24 through 28, go to the event’s page and hit the “request” button. You’ll enter your available dates and quickly explain why you’d like to attend. Once the entry window is closed, Airbnb will do a random drawing to select the winner of the tickets, who will then be approved and offered the opportunity to book. If you’re selected, the experience is completely free.
Aside from this offering, there are tons of other opportunities to explore Airbnb’s new experiential category. The brand announced a tequila tasting with Kevin Hart at his member-only club, an intimate living room session with Doja Cat (and her cats) and the first-ever overnight stay at Musée d’Orsay.
While “Icons” now officially has its own name and section on the homepage, Airbnb has actually been offering these rentals and experiences inspired by movies, television and cultural phenomenons for the past five years. Take the Barbie Malibu Dreamhouse, for example. In 2019 (and then again in 2023), Mattel opened its real-life mansion’s doors to four lucky folks to stay for two nights. And it didn’t stop there: the package included meet-and-greets, cooking classes, fencing lessons and more.
The success of interactive stays like this inspired the whole new category for the company, which will be rolling out lots more experiences around the world throughout 2024.
A countdown displays the time until each Icon goes live, and you can sign up for a notification to let you know when entry begins. More than 4,000 tickets will be available this year. Stay tuned for the latest once-in-a-lifetime listings.
