Frasier returned with a new season on Paramount+ after the 11-season original run ended in 2004. Kelsey Grammer reprised the role of the titular character, now in a new chapter of his life, and he was joined by a couple familiar faces during the first season of the revival: Bebe Neuwirth returned as Lilith, while Peri Gilpin guest-starred in the finale.
But will the comedy be back for more? Read on for everything we know about the show’s future.
Will the Frasier Revival Return for Season 2?
Yes! Paramount+ renewed the comedy in February 2024. The first season ended in December 2023. “Frasier is a love story, and I am very happy we will be allowed to continue it. I’m delighted that our partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+ are on board for another season, and I can’t wait for the fans to see what we have in store!” said Grammer, who also served as an executive producer, at the time.
Has Filming Started?
Yes, it has. Paramount+ announced on May 9 that production had started, with a video teaser in which Grammer is all giddy smiles as he rides a bike down the Paramount lot to the Frasier soundstage (below).
When Will Season 2 Premiere?
That has yet to be announced.
Who Will Return for Frasier Season 2?
Grammer is back as Frasier, as are, from the first season, Jack Cutmore-Scott as Freddy, Frasier’s son; Nicholas Lyndhurst as Alan, Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor; Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, Alan’s colleague and head of the university’s psychology department; Jess Salgueiro as Eve, Frasier and Freddy’s neighbor; and Anders Keith as David, Frasier’s nephew.
Gilpin, following her Season 1 finale appearance, will be back as well, to recur as Roz. Plus, the legendary James Burrows is returning to direct two episodes in the new season.
Who’s Joining the Cast for Frasier Season 2?
Patricia Heaton will guest star as Holly, described as down-to-earth, unpretentious, and openly mocking of overly-intellectual types,” according to Deadline. “A Boston native who tends bar at upscale restaurants and events, Holly is extraordinarily comfortable with both who and where she is in life, a quality that the always-climbing, always-reaching Frasier finds as alien as he does attractive.” It reunites Heaton and Grammer after they worked together in 2007 on the Fox comedy Back to You.
Yvette Nicole Brown has been cast as Olivia’s sister, who is part haughty professor, part Nancy Drew, the brilliant, biting, and delightfully deadpan,” Variety reports. “Olivia’s perfect older sister … has everything Olivia has and everything Olivia wants – and never misses a chance to remind her.”
Amy Sedaris will guest as Dr. “Doc” Stathos, according to Variety. She is “a municipal therapist with a down-home, scattered veneer. She works with the firefighters at Freddy’s firehouse and is also a big, BIG fan of Frasier Crane from his old TV talk show.”
Greer Grammer (Kelsey’s daughter) will play Roz’s daughter Alice, reports Deadline. “Now in her late twenties, friendly, outgoing Alice has inherited more than some of her mother’s free-spirited ways. Having just moved to Providence to study architecture, Alice is eager to catch up with Frasier’s son Freddy—and complicate whatever romantic plans he may have.”
Plus, Dan Butler and Edward Hibbert will guest star, reprising the roles of Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe and Gil Chesterton from the original run, respectively.
“Dan Butler and Edward Hibbert have made an indelible contribution to television, and I am overjoyed to welcome them back to Frasier and for the opportunity to work together once again,” Grammer said in a statement.
Harriet Sansom Harris is set to reprise her role as Frasier’s agent, Bebe Glazer, and Rachel Bloom will guest star as her character’s daughter, Phoebe, according to Variety. The official character descriptions note Bebe is “known for her dramatic flair and outrageous Machiavellian maneuvers” and “will stop at nothing to get what she wants,” while Phoebe has “inherited her mother’s indomitable charm” and “boasts a magnetic personality as well as a taste for the finer things.”
What Is Season 2 About?
The series will continue to follow Frasier in the next chapter of his life. He’s returned to Boston to face new challenges, forge new relationships and – with hope – finally fulfill an old dream or two.
