As we prime up for The Witcher‘s highly anticipated return to Netflix for its fourth season, we’re keeping track of which characters will return and who will be new.
The Witcher Season 4 cast and character guide will keep you apprised of all the latest news about the series ahead of its release in 2025 or 2026.
Fans will see some of their favorite characters returning and a few new additions to the roster.
We’ve even got news about the cast switch-up for The Witcher’s main character, Geralt of Rivia. Read all about The Witcher’s fourth season and who you’ll see.
The Witcher Season 4 Cast and Character Guide
The Witcher is set to end with the fifth season, adapting the final three books in the series by Andrzej Sapkowski: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Shallow, and Lady of the Lake.
The only returning major roles for the fourth season will be Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer, and Jaskier. That leaves plenty of room for new characters to bring the books to life.
But there are plenty of minor characters and cast we’ll also see coming back from previous seasons, including:
- Triss (Anna Shaffer)
- Francesca (Mecia Simson)
- Fringilla (Mimi Ndiweni)
- Cahir (Eamon Farren)
- Dara (Wilson Mbomio)
- Phillipa (Cassie Clare)
- Istredd (Royce Pierreson)
- Sabrina Glevissig (Therica Wilson-Read)
- Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu)
Some characters who appeared in the third season and will return include Emperor Emhyr (Bart Edwards), Milva (Meng’er Zhang), and Radovid (Hugh Skinner).
While we’ll see returning characters, that doesn’t mean we’ll see the same actors. Fans must adjust to a new face as Geralt since Henry Cavill departed at the end of the third season.
Nowadays, it’s more common to see a character killed rather than replaced with a new actor. But when you’re talking about a book adaptation, it’s more difficult to do that formula, resulting in more than one actor playing a character.

Geralt of Rivia (Liam Hemsworth)
In the first three seasons of The Witcher, Henry Cavill played Geralt.
But he announced that he would leave the show in 2022 while it was still running, leaving the role open for a new actor.
At the time, Cavill believed he would be reprising the role of Superman.
However, after the reimagining of DC’s universe by co-bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran, another celebrity took the reins of Man in Steel, leaving Cavill for other roles.
Australian actor Liam Hemsworth will make his Witcher debut as the White Wolf of the Continent for the series’ final two seasons.
Hemsworth will appear on the TV screen after scoring recent roles in The Hunger Games and Independence Day: Resurgence.
Princess Cirilla (Freya Allan)
With the mouthful name Princess Cirilla of Cintra, it’s unsurprising that she’s often called Ciri for short. We see untapped potential from the start, even if she’s unaware of just how powerful — or important — she is to Elfkind as a Child of Elder Blood.
Yennefer and Geralt embrace Ciri to protect her after the Nilfgaard overtakes her country. And once she goes missing, their purpose becomes to rescue her.
We’ll see this adventure when the fourth season returns. Being young and inexperienced affects Ciri’s magical journey, equal parts self-doubt and fierce determination.
But she’s grown stronger and more experienced each season as she explores her magical potential amid the struggles of growing up.
We expect The Witcher Season 4 to follow the third book layout of Baptism of Fire, which puts Ciri into an alliance with a dangerous gang called the Rats. And she’ll be changing her name to Falka.
While Allan has had a few small roles since her start in 2017, her role as Ciri was the breakout part she needed to discover herself. She also leads Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which is currently streaming on Hulu.
Yennefer (Anya Chalotra)
As an adult, Yennefer is a respected and badass sorceress who rises above a neglected childhood to become even better as a parent than as a magical being.
However, she had a difficult childhood with problematic parents and physical disfigurement before getting into a prestigious sorcery school and discovering her massive abilities.
Yennefer learned her craft at Aretuza under rectoress Tissaia de Vries, who became a mother figure to Yennefer.
During her formative years, she spent all her time on her magic until she met Geralt, her true love.
Once she and Geralt encounter Ciri, she embraces motherhood.
She focuses on keeping the girl safe, and the fourth season will pick up with Yennefer on the hunt to rescue Ciri from herself and outside dangers.
She’ll also have to recover from the emotional turmoil left behind after her mother figure, Tissaia, killed herself at the end of Season 3. It happened so soon after Yennefer decided to mend old hurts.
Actress Anya Chalotra has had a short career, but she has had some awesome roles in shows like Doctor Who: Time War, Wanderlust, Sherwood, The Cipher, and all episodes of The Witcher.
Jaskier (Joey Batey)
Jaskier is Geralt’s loyal sidekick, tagging along on his traveling adventures.
Originally, Geralt didn’t want the company, but Jaskier was more persistent than a librarian with an overdue library book to find. Their frequent proximity and the occasional brush with death turned a friendship into a chosen family.
Jaskier is so close to Geralt that he adopts Ciri as family, declaring himself her uncle and protector. I
n addition to being a friend-turned-family member, Jaskier also had a second identity as the Sandpiper, a friend of refugee elves who needed his aid during the war.
Jaskier’s sunny demeanor makes him the perfect travel companion, while his street smarts allow him to help in times of need.
Sources say The Witcher Season 4 will focus more on Jaskier’s love life and give him a proper love interest for further character development.
You might’ve seen Joey Batey during his work on The White Queen, C. B. Strike, and The Knightfall. Batey also appeared on The Witcher: Blood Origin, a prequel series.
Regis (Laurence Fishburne)
It’s impossible not to get excited when an actor of Fishburne’s caliber is announced to join the show.
Laurence is coming to the show as a barber slash surgeon who will accompany Geralt during his travels.
His character has deep secrets and a mysterious past, but we don’t know much else.
I don’t have the space or finger strength to discuss Fishburne’s extensive talents, but do we really need to introduce Morpheus (The Matrix) to you fanatics?
Okay, fine.
He’s also been in John Wick, Black-ish, Grown-ish, the Hannibal series, DCMU, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (the original), several superhero movies, and my fav, Akeelah and the Bee.
Leo Bonhart (Sharlto Copley)
Sharlto Copley will debut as a bounty hunter named Leo Bonhart, a popular character from the books.
This is a mysterious role, and when we discover more, we’ll update this page with what we learn.
The Witcher isn’t Copley’s only recent role in 2024. You can also catch him in Curb Your Enthusiasm and Monkey Man.
Other roles include Boy Kills World, Gringo, Powers, Maleficent, and my favorite, The A-Team as Murdock.
Stregobor (Lars Mikkelsen)
We met Stregobor in the first season of The Witcher as he tried to use Geralt to get rid of Renfri.
As a sorcerer who’s done too much dark magic, he’s corrupted past saving.
He is also Istredd’s teacher and plays an important part in the Brotherhood of Sorcerers.
Given his penchant for dark magic and vileness, he’s a source of the constant clash of good and evil against Yennefer and Geralt.
Actor Lars Mikkelsen (brother of Mads Mikkelsen) portrays the villain sorcerer in The Witcher, but it’s not his only big role.
You’ve also seen him in House of Cards and Sherlock, along with several Danish projects.
Skellen (James Purefoy)
Skellen is Emhyr’s court advisor and a high-ranking spy. His role in the fourth and fifth seasons has been unclear so far.
Purefoy has starred in TV series such as A Discovery of Witches, Rome, Hap and Leonard, Sex Education, and Altered Carbon.
For feature films, he’s started in like A Knight’s Tale and Mansfield Park.
We’ve also heard his voice in animated works like Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia.
Zoltan (Danny Woodburn)
Zoltan is a dwarf who is very close to Geralt in the video games but less so in the book series.
His role as a trusted friend to the Witcher in the upcoming fourth season combines video game nuances with Zoltan’s taking over the role of Yarpen from the books.
Many people know Danny Woodburn from his time as Mickey from Seinfeld.
But you’ve also spotted his talents in other shows like One Tree Hill, Bones, Baywatch, CSI, and Murder, She Wrote, to name a few.
He’s also known for his roles in Watchmen and Mirror Mirror.
