Val Chmerkovskiy Returns To DWTS After Suspension
Carrie Ann Inaba has been a judge on DWTS since the beginning. She’s notoriously harsh on illegal lifts, especially since head judge Len Goodman passed away several years ago. Len was always tough on lifts and sometimes went head-to-head with the pros during scoring. In a rare incident for Carrie Ann, she had a tense exchange with Jenna Johnson over an illegal lift.
Jenna Johnson’s husband, pro Val Chmerkovskiy, didn’t like that. He defended his wife by joking about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars a few years ago. Val was suspended for one episode after an internal investigation. Alan Bersten stepped in to partner with Jenna Dewan, which brought its own drama after another pro dissed Alan.
Val Chmerkovskiy served his suspension and returned to the ballroom just in time for Horror Movie Night. What viewers at home didn’t see was Val and Carrie Ann having a quiet conversation during a commercial break. They didn’t have mics on, but a source revealed what was said.
Val & Carrie Ann’s Off-Mic Conversation Revealed
Carrie Ann Inaba and Jenna Johnson were spotted hugging after their on-air blowup. The DWTS judge made good with Val in the same manner. Multiple fans in the studio audience recorded an intimate moment between Carrie Ann and Val when the cameras were down for a commercial break.
The judge and the pro were spotted deep in conversation at the judges’ table. Val Chmerkovskiy kept his hands on Carrie Ann’s waist throughout the brief exchange while she held his shoulders. Cosmopolitan magazine enlisted the services of a lip reader to figure out what the two were saying.
“That was last week. Tonight, I have the best feeling. Tonight’s gonna be our night. We just gotta pull together…okay? You with me? Nothing is gonna happen to you, okay?” Val allegedly said at one point in their conversation.
Carrie Ann Inaba reportedly told him at one point in the chat, “I’m done with the pep talk. What would I do without you?”
Lip reading isn’t always accurate. But another angle obtained by PEOPLE magazine showed Carrie Ann Inaba addressing the nosy nellies nearby who were watching the conversation. “So everyone’s staring. We are coworkers and we are completely cordial. We are good, okay?” she said to the cheers of the crowd.
Val Chmerkovskiy described the encounter as a “cathartic relief” to PEOPLE magazine after the show. Unfortunately, the drama between Val and Carrie Ann has overshadowed Season 35, which is just three episodes away from the semi-finals.
