From Carrie to Bridgerton: Hollywood Got Booked Again

    Dear Voracious Reader,

    Carrie is back.

Yes, that Carrie — the blood-soaked, telekinetic teenage nightmare dreamed up by Stephen King, the same twisted genius who also wrote the novella that inspired the Oscar-nominated film The Shawshank Redemption. Talk about range. From pig’s blood and prom-night carnage to prison walls and redemption, King knows how to tell a story Hollywood can’t resist.

And apparently, neither can the rest of us.

Hollywood has a serious book addiction, and frankly, here at BookTrib we’re cheering it on. Following the success of adaptations like Heated Rivalry and Bridgerton, producers are raiding bestseller lists faster than readers can turn the pages. Why gamble on an original screenplay when millions of devoted fans are already obsessed with the characters they know and love?

For book lovers, it’s a delicious case of we told you so. But with an avalanche of adaptations heading our way, keeping up is becoming a full-time job. Consider this your cheat sheet to what’s coming, what’s streaming, and what deserves a spot on your increasingly out-of-control TBR pile.

NOTEWORTHY NEWS: DRAGONS, DESIRE & A LITTLE MAGIC

Fourth Wing fans, your patience is finally paying off. Prime Video has reportedly found its Violet Sorrengail and Xaden Riorson in Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya. Rebecca Yarros’ wildly popular romantasy is inching closer to the screen, bringing with it all the dragons, danger, sexual tension and cutthroat competition of Basgiath War College. Buckle up.

Meanwhile, magical romance is having its own moment. The buzz surrounding the fantasy romcom starring Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård has brought renewed attention to its literary inspiration, Ursula Wills-Jones’ short story “The Wicker Husband.” Fresh ebook and audiobook editions are giving the story a second life, with a new collection of Wills-Jones’ short fiction expected in 2027. Proof that sometimes Hollywood discovers a gem hiding in plain sight.

TRAILER TRASH TALK: WHAT’S WORTH WATCHING

Fake dating, fabulous chemistry, and two seriously watchable leads?

We’re in! Netflix’s Guarding Stars, adapted from Katherine Center’s novel The Bodyguard, stars Leighton Meester and Jared Padalecki and is already generating major buzz. Its trailer reportedly racked up two million views in just 48 hours. Apparently, we’re all suckers for a little manufactured romance that turns into the real thing.

On the darker side, Suzanne Collins’ Sunrise on the Reaping is headed for the big screen, promising another emotionally brutal trip to Panem. May the odds be ever in your favor — and maybe keep tissues nearby.

And then there’s Greta Gerwig’s take on C.S. Lewis’ Narnia. If anyone can give a beloved childhood fantasy a fresh, visually dazzling makeover, it’s the director who turned Barbie into a cultural phenomenon.

NOW STREAMING: LOVE, LITERATURE & A LITTLE BLOOD

Not in the mood to wait? There’s plenty to sink your teeth into right now.

For a dose of romantic escapism, Ali Hazelwood’s The Love Hypothesis brings its irresistible mix of science, sexual chemistry and questionable romantic decisions to Prime Video. Because nothing says romance quite like falling for the one person you’re pretending to date.

Prefer your romance with a British accent and a healthy dose of emotional repression? Jane Austen is having yet another Hollywood moment. While Netflix prepares its latest Pride and Prejudice revival, Sense and Sensibility offers another opportunity to indulge in complicated courtships, family drama and men who desperately need to communicate.

    THE FINAL CHAPTER

Hollywood may be running out of original ideas, but with a seemingly endless supply of brilliant books, we’re not complaining.

The only real dilemma: read it first or watch it first?

Our advice? Do both. Just don’t expect to get much sleep.

    Happy reading, bingeing and obsessing!
