It was “really funny” for Homer Gere and Kaia Gerber to be working together on The Shards following their parents’ romantic history.
While chatting with E! News at the New York City premiere of Ryan Murphy‘s new FX series, both actors opened up about their experience sharing the screen 30 years after Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere divorced in 1995.
Crawford later remarried Rande Gerber in 1998 and they welcomed Kaia in 2001, while Richard Gere and Carey Lowell got married in 2002, two years after Homer was born. The latter couple ultimately divorced in 2016 and Richard has since tied the knot again with Alejandra Silva.
Homer told E! that it was “really funny” to jump into The Shards with Kaia as they “hadn’t met before shooting.” He added, “Two weeks before we met at a bar with all the other cast and we became friends. From the inside, it’s really normal.”
“We just became friends as coworkers before we started working, and she’s become a really close friend. It’s been lovely working with her,” the Euphoria actor continued.
Kaia echoed a similar sentiment on the red carpet, saying she had “never met Homer until we started filming,” despite both their parents still working in the entertainment industry throughout the last three decades.
“It was so lovely to work with him,” the Palm Royale actress added. “He’s so wonderful. He’s so funny. He makes me laugh so hard and he’s the greatest scene partner ever. And really it’s just such a supportive environment and we’ve gotten so close over this process.”
The Shards, adapted from Bret Easton Ellis’ book of the same name, follows a group of privileged high school friends as a serial killer strikes across Los Angeles in 1981.
Elsewhere on the red carpet, Kaia spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about her reaction to when she first learned Murphy would be adapting Ellis’ novel for the small screen.
“I’m a huge Bret Easton Ellis fan and when this book came out, I read it immediately and read it over and over again,” she said. “Then when I heard Ryan was doing it, I’m also the biggest fan of Ryan. He gave me my first ever job. When he told me he got the rights to it, I just got chills and teared up.”
The series premieres Aug. 5 on FX.
