‘Jeopardy!’ Contestants Face Tricky Game as Returning Champ Fights for Win

On Tuesday’s game of Jeopardy!, Erica Doornek, a federal employee originally from Glasgow, Montana, returns to the Alec Trebec Stage as a two-day champ with winnings of $39,000. To keep her streak going, she needs to defeat Jon Barilone, a public relations & marketing consultant from Aliso Viejo, California, and Tamara O’Flaherty, a lawyer from New York City. Will she win? Warning: Spoilers for the Tuesday, November 3, episode of Jeopardy! ahead!

The game kicked off in the category of “Champagne” for $400 with the clue: “Always in an empire-building state of mind, this rapper’s businesses have included Rocawear clothing & Ace of Spades Champagne.” And with the correct answer of “Who is Jay-Z?” O’Flaherty was on the board.

The first Daily Double was found under “Secretarial Work” for $800 by O’Flaherty. On the clue, “Part of the ‘shuttle diplomacy’ exercise by this secretary of state led to resuming U.S./Egypt diplomatic relations,” she wagered $1,200 and incorrectly answered Clinton when time was up. The correct answer was Henry Kissinger.

During the game, all three Daily Doubles were missed by the trio, but Doornek only bet $200 on her DD, which helped her keep ahead as she headed into Final Jeopardy.

The Final Jeopardy round was in the category of “19th Century Names”: “Yellow, this man’s favorite color, was ‘the symbol of the light that he dreamed of as being in people’s hearts (&) in works of art.’”

The correct response was “Who is Vincent van Gogh?” and all three contestants got it right.

Heading into the final round, Doornek was in the lead with $10,200, followed by O’Flaherty with $6,600 and Barilone with $4,200. Barilone wagered $3,001, bringing his total to $7,201, while O’Flaherty added $1,806 to finish with $8,406. However, neither could catch Doornek, who wagered $3,001 to finish with $13,201, securing her third consecutive victory and bringing her three-day total to $52,201.
