    Preview:

    • John Mulaney may star in a new ‘Get Smart’ movie.
    • Seth Grahame-Smith is working on the script.
    • Warner Bros. is backing the project.

Here we go again with a recognizable name from times past hauled out to be given another coat of remake paint. In this case, it’s 1960s spy comedy ‘Get Smart,’ with Warner Bros. figuring it’s good for another run at theaters.

And, via Deadline, comes word that writer, comedian and actor John Mulaney is the man the studio thinks could inherit the mantle of agent Maxwell Smart.

While this one is at an early stage, it does have a writer attached, as Seth Grahame-Smith, who last brought us ‘Now You See Me: Now You Don’t’ is at work on the screenplay.

What was the story of ‘Get Smart’?

Mel Brooks and Buck Henry created the original TV spy comedy, which ran for 138 episodes from 1965-70.

Don Adams starred as bumbling know-it-all agent Maxwell Smart (Agent 86) opposite Barbara Feldon (Agent 99) and Edward Platt, who played the Chief. They work for a secret U.S. government counterintelligence agency called Control, which was in a constant battle with evil org, Kaos. While Smart always has the upper hand over Kaos, he often was incompetent.

It spawned a theatrical movie, one made for TV effort and a brief attempt at a small screen revival in 1995. Then, in 2008 came the big screen remake, starring Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway and Dwayne Johnson.

Where else can we see John Mulaney?

Mulaney will be back on our screens in Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming movie ‘Madden’, starring Nicolas Cage as the famed football coach and NFL commentator. It hits Prime Video on November 18th.

He also just announced Mulaney Takes Manhattan, a special nine-show New York City stand-up run in January that takes him to nine iconic venues over nine nights.
