Kali Malone Readies New Album Burning Song

Kali Malone has announced a new album, Burning Song, her solo follow-up to 2024’s All Life Long. Joined by Stephen O’Malley on guitar and Lucy Railton on cello, Malone recorded the album at Thomaskirche in Leipzig, Germany—the church where Johann Sebastian Bach served as cantor for the last 27 years of his life and was subsequently buried. She performed on the church’s Bach Organ, a modern instrument based on baroque tunings and temperament. With the announcement comes a single, “Heavy With Fruit,” and a European tour itinerary, both below.

Since All Life Long, Malone has released an album with Drew McDowall, Magnetism, and, this year, one with the cellist and composer Leila Bordreuil, Music for Intersecting Planes. Last year, her landmark album of pipe organ compositions, The Sacrificial Code, was reissued via Ideologic Organ. The trio corralled for Burning Song is the same one that worked on Malone’s 2023 album Does Spring Hide Its Joy.
