    • Michael Bay is developing a new based-on-truth military movie.
    • It’ll follow the recent mission to rescue down pilots during Operation Epic Fury in Iran.
    • Universal is backing the project.

Michael Bay clearly enjoys working on military movies. And he’s rarely more in his wheelhouse than when he’s directing something that combines US forces’ heroism with true-life stories, such as Transform… er, okay, maybe something more along the lines of ‘13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi’ or ‘Pearl Harbor.’

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi

“When everything went wrong, six men had the courage to do what was right.”

    Release Date: Jan 15, 2016

Run Time: 2 hr 24 min

    Budget: $50,000,000

Deadline reports that Bay has found his latest blend of the two, as he’s developing a movie based on a recent rescue mission that took place during the early days of America’s Operation Epic Fury campaign in Iran.

It has landed at Universal where Bay has a production deal.

The new film will follow the extraordinary heroism of the two U.S. airmen rescued after their F-15E Strike Eagle was downed in early April during Operation Epic Fury.

We don’t yet know who is writing the script, but it’ll be based on the upcoming book by Mitchell Zuckoff, which HarperCollins will publish in 2027.

Here’s Bay on why he decided to take on the movie:

“I’ve had an amazing partnership over my 30-year career working with the Department of War and amazing U.S. military members. In my film ‘13 Hours,’ no rescue force answered the call for help. This film is about everyone who answered the call in one of the most complex, intricate and high-stakes operations in recent history. It celebrates the true heroism and unwavering dedication of our service members.”
