Noel Gallagher dedicated ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ to the England football team at his show in Cardiff Castle last night (July 17).
The former Oasis chief wrapped up his performance with the classic hit single which saw him perform a host of songs from his solo material and his former band.
Introducing the track, Gallagher said: “We can sing this for the English football team.” You can view footage below.
It comes after England were beaten 2-1 by Spain in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday (July 14).
Shortly after the defeat, England manager Gareth Southgate also announced that he was stepping down from the job after eight years. A replacement is yet to be announced.
Louis Tomlinson, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and former England striker Gary Lineker were among those that paid tribute to Southgate.
Gallagher previously joked that he is “not an England fan” after Manchester City celebrated winning the Premier League title at the Etihad Stadium in May.
When asked if he cares about how Phil Foden plays in the Euros, he said: “I’m not an England fan, I’m Irish,” before saying “Good night!” and walking away.
Meanwhile, Gallagher recently hit out at Dave Grohl, urging the Foo Fighters frontman to stop calling for an Oasis reunion.
For several years, Grohl has campaigned for the band to get back together, which has drawn the ire of Gallagher. Speaking on Matt Morgan’s podcast post-Glastonbury, – where Noel and Grohl had caught LCD Soundsystem’s Pyramid Stage set from side-stage – the Oasis guitarist and vocalist recalled bumping into the former Nirvana drummer at Worthy Farm.
“I did actually bump into Dave [Grohl]. He was about three feet away from me when I was watching LCD Soundsystem and he was staying in the same hotel I was staying in. I would just like him to wind his fucking neck in about Oasis. I wouldn’t talk to him. I haven’t got time for that fucking mob any more,” Gallagher recalled.
Elsewhere, Gallagher praised Irish group Kneecap for their performance at the festival, saying: “We went to see this Northern Irish street kids called Kneecap…they’re kind of pro Republican rappers…
“We get there and the tent is absolutely fucking smashed packed – you couldn’t get in. These three lads walk out, one of them is in a balaclava and they rap in Gaelic. They’ve got a song called ‘Get Your Brits Out’. There’s a lot of humour to it…I mean I couldn’t believe how enjoyable it was. Being of Irish heritage I found that quite funny and they were really, really good.”
