Has A Different World been renewed for Season 2?
Yes! On October 2, Netflix announced the series will get a second season as the characters enter their sophomore year.
“It’s so validating to be bolstered by our amazing audience. We are beyond excited to return to Hillman and continue to tell meaningful and heartfelt stories that resonate across generations. I am thrilled for our brilliant cast and our hard-working crew,” said series creator, showrunner, and exec producer Felicia Pride.
“Yay! Hallelujah! The people and Netflix have spoken. A Different World brought something everybody needed: joy, romance, relevance, authenticity, and heart! When will A Different World Season 2 premiere?
Netflix has officially renewed the A Different World sequel series for Season 2, but it hasn’t announced an exact release date yet. Please check back here for updates.
What will A Different World Season 2 be about?
The official logline reads: “After transformative summers, Deborah and her Hillman classmates return to campus for sophomore year with a ‘New Year, New Me’ attitude, only to find themselves faced with past decisions, uncertain futures, new loves and friendships, and deeper questions of purpose… all while, of course, getting themselves into a whole lot of new mess.”

Who will likely star in A Different World Season 2?
If Season 2 continues following the same class at Hillman, the six central young stars would be the most likely candidates to return: Maleah Joi Moon as Deborah Wayne, Alijah Kai as Rashida Duvall, Cornell Young IV as Shaquille Johnson, Jordan Aaron Hall as Amir Rodale, Kennedi Reece as Hazel Henry, and Chibuikem Uche as Kojo Achebe.
Netflix has emphasized that, although Deborah is at the center of the sequel, the new A Different World is very much an ensemble.
There could also be more opportunities for familiar faces. Season 1 saw the return of Jasmine Guy as Whitley, Kadeem Hardison as Dwayne, Cree Summer as Freddie Brooks, and Darryl M. Bell as Ron Johnson, among other original-series stars.
Exactly which legacy characters would return for another season would depend on the story. But for now, no Season 2 cast has been announced.
Will Lisa Bonet’s return for Season 2?
Warning: Spoilers for Season 1 of A Different World ahead! In the finale of A Different World, it’s revealed that Deborah’s love interest, Ellington, is the son of Denise Huxtable, played by Lisa Bonet in the original series. Longtime fans will remember that Denise was also Dwayne’s first love, long before he and Whitley got together. That connection becomes even more intriguing in one of the finale’s last moments, when Dwayne calls Denise while Whitley is sleeping and tells her, “I need you now.”
So, is that an invitation to Season 2?
Actor Vincent Jamal Hooper, who plays Ellington, told TV Insider that he hopes “that my mom shows up. That would be very cool.”
