Review of On Clouds, On Running Sneaker Sale

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, The Hollywood Reporter may receive an affiliate commission.

Cult-classic footwear brand On was founded in the Swiss Alps on a couple of key principles: embracing next-gen tech, and doing so with the lowest possible carbon footprint. Since its founding in 2010, the running and athletic wear company has completely blown up, spotted on Emily Ratajkowski, Jennifer Lopez, Gisele Bündchen, longtime brand partner Zendaya and endless more famous faces.

Plus, the Hollywood-coveted brand is no stranger to collaborations. In June of last year, On and FKA Twigs dropped their first-ever lineup of co-designed apparel and sneakers, including the Cloud X FKA, the British singer-songwriter’s take on On’s signature Cloud trainers. More recently, Zendaya and her longstanding “Image Architect” Law Roach teamed up to create the Cloudzone Moon sneaker.

The brand has also partnered with Roger Federer on a capsule of tennis and tennis-inspired shoes, and with luxury fashion house Loewe on multiple collections of bold and sporty kicks and apparel, with an assortment of sneakers and clothing still available to shop on on.com, mytheresa.com and loewe.com.

In October 2025, the duo introduced the Cloudsolo, the first shoe entirely co-designed by Loewe and On. Available in nine colors, the limited-edition style is the first to feature a signature lace toggle inspired by the iconic Loewe pebble.

Comes with both elastic and regular laces.

This is in addition to the Cloudtilt ($590), which was released in two denim-inspired colorways.

And, while it’s a newer brand in the scheme of footwear companies, On boasts an impressive inventory of road running, trail running, lifestyle, hiking and outdoor, tennis and training and gym shoes. To aid in the search, we narrowed it down to the best On models for every need: speed, comfort, everyday use and so on.

And now, just in time for the new year, select retailers are treating customers to limited-time discounts: REI is offering up to 50 percent off select On sneaker styles, Nordstrom is also offering half off On (as part of its Half-Yearly Sale), Backcountry is offering up to 30 percent off select styles and Dick’s Sporting Goods is offering up to 25 percent off select styles.

Additionally, on.com is offering savings of up to 50 percent on previous seasons’ collections. This includes a combination of this season’s styles in last season’s colors and classic models of current best-sellers.

Below, THR rounded up our top eight pairs of On sneakers for every activity (all offered in both women’s and men’s sizing and in a variety of colorways). Most of these handpicked styles have original colorways or models discounted as part of On’s Last Season Shop or have exclusive prices as part of Backcountry’s savings event, Dick’s Sporting Goods’ event, REI’s savings event, Nordstrom’s Half-Yearly Sale or other retailer-specific promotions, all of which has been noted in the product descriptions below. Here’s exactly what to shop and how to save.

    On Cloudmonster 2

    best overall

    On Cloudmonster 2

If you’re on the search for a road running sneaker that blends both spring and energy return with stability, look no further than the Cloudmonster 2.

The sneaker’s unique silhouette provides forward-rolling motion, and its Nylon-blend Speedboard promotes momentum and powerful take-off. The patented CloudTec technology adds maximum cushioning and bounce. Plus, simply put, the shoes are really cool-looking. Use them as a daily trainer for your lightest of jogs to the longest of runs.

Plus, On just reduced select colorways of the Cloudmonster 2 even further, previously down from $180 to $140, and now all the way down to $125. Also, the original Cloudmonster is up to 30 percent off ($118.99) at Nordstrom.

    On Cloud 6

    best everyday sneaker

    On Cloud 6

Launched a few months back, the newest iteration of On’s OG shoe, the Cloud 6, is the ultimate lifestyle sneaker.

This lightweight model is ideal for long walks, running errands and travel days. While you can certainly wear it as a running shoe, there are much better options in On’s vast catalog if you’re seeking a supportive road running or trail running sneaker (included below). The On Cloud 6 features a speed lacing system for easy on and off, but there’s a pair of standard laces in the box if preferred.

    On Cloudflow 5

    best for speed

    On Cloudflow 5

If speed is your speed, On’s Cloudflow 5 is the optimal choice.

The Cloudflow’s brand-new generation is a road running shoe that’s ultra responsive and lightweight, making it an excellent training and racing shoe. Its extreme rocker shape and powerful forward roll promotes speed and propels you ahead.

Plus, since the new generation of this On style recently dropped, the Cloudflow 4 received a 40 percent price reduction (first 20 percent, then 30 percent and now down to 40 percent) at on.com, currently $95 while supplies last. The fourth gen has a lower level of cushioning than the fifth, but not to fear, the patented Helion dual-density superfoam that runs through the shoe lowers impact and softens the land.

    On Cloudeclipse

    most comfortable (runner up)

    On Cloudeclipse

All colorways just got an extra price drop.

For unmatched comfort and cushioning, the newly-launched Cloudsurfer Max is your go-to. It also happens to come in one of On’s coolest colorways: Mineral/Honeydew. The Cloudsurfer Max was designed as a replacement for the beloved Cloudeclipse in On’s max-cushioned category.

While the lower cushioning on a shoe like the Cloudflow means a faster and more responsive running experience, the max cushioning on the Cloudsurfer Max and Cloudeclipse means less impact and extra comfort. And since these styles have On’s thickest midsole and softest cushioning of the bunch, they’re the ultimate picks for a pillowy run. In fact, they feature a double layer of patented CloudTec Phase cushioning which collapses as you run to double down on the impact absorption.

Plus, all Cloudflow colors were recently reduced a third time, currently up to 42 percent off at on.com.

Cloud X 4 AD Training Sneaker

    most versatile

Cloud X 4 AD Training Sneaker

Go from squats to circuits to sprints to a 5K with the On trainer that does it all.

The Cloud X 4 AD features a light, cool and breathable mesh upper, cushioning and soft padding along the collar for comfort and support, raised sidewalls and a wide bottom platform for stability, a full-length Speedboard for added power, rubber pads on the outsole for enhanced traction and a reinforced toe cap to protect feet during training. If your goal is to streamline your shoe game, these mixed-sports sneakers are the pick.

Intended for moderate terrain, the Missiongrip rubber outsole has a special lug pattern for traction and stability on loose debris and wet surfaces. While built for durability, the shoes also have a soft, pillowy sensation thanks to the lightweight construction.

In addition to the waterproof model, the Cloudhorizon is available in a non-waterproof version that’s up to 30 percent off ($125+). Plus, shop all of On’s hiking shoe and apparel offerings here, available for a variety of trails and terrains.

    On Cloudpulse

    best for the gym

    On Cloudpulse

The Cloudpulse is On’s first-ever training shoe designed specifically for the gym.

Crafted to expertly blend stability and flexibility, this model is for cardio, weights, HIIT and all you cross-training needs. The midsole is made from patented Helion superfoam, which is light and bouncy for powerful energy return. Plus, it has a reinforced mesh upper, allowing for breathability in eve the stuffiest of gyms (while still remaining supportive). Shop On’s full lineup of training and gym shoes here.

    On Cloudvista 2 Waterproof

    best for trail running

    On Cloudvista 2 Waterproof

Made for success on all terrain, On’s Cloudvista 2 Waterproof sneakers are our top pick for trail running.

Since they feature a waterproof membrane, they’ll keep your feet dry no matter the conditions. And while On offers multiple styles in waterproof versions, this is the brand’s lightest weighing option in the category. The Cloudvista 2 features a patented ultra-sticky Missiongrip rubber outsole to prevent slipping no matter the surface you’re running on. It also includes an updated tread pattern with bigger, more aggressive lugs for added traction.

Plus, select colors in the non-waterproof version are currently reduced at on.com and zappos.com (women’s and men’s).
