‘RHOC’ Emily Simpson Admits Marriage On Edge, In Therapy

Emily Simpson has always been open about the ups and downs of being married to her husband, Shane Simpson. They are two very different people who live vastly different lives. Now, ahead of The Real Housewives of Orange County premiere, Emily is opening up about her marriage being on edge. Now, the RHOC couple is in therapy amid strain, but what exactly is going on? Keep reading for more details.

Emily Simpson & Husband Not In Good Place

RHOC fans have long wondered why Shane and Emily Simpson are together. He has talked down to her and is somewhat dull. She loves to have a good time and is larger than life. Moreover, she was very dedicated to her career as a lawyer, but Shane struggled to pass the California bar exam. Finally, he hunkered down and was able to pass it. Emily did want more kids, as their three were born via surrogate, but that did not fly for Shane. Then, their son, Luke, was given several diagnoses, as seen in Season 19, and that severely impacted their marriage.

Ahead of the Season 20 premiere, Emily opened up about her marital issues with Shane. She explained that things got to a point where couples therapy became their only option. The 50-year-old explained that things shifted a lot in their home when Shane had to be more proactive with their children. That caused some problems, but she also noted that they have been together almost 20 years:

“Shane dedicated himself to being more at home and taking care of the kids and taking on more of a role with the children, and that’s stressful. So I think just the stress of us parenting and being married for so long, it plays out on camera.”

Furthermore, the RHOC star added that this is a “real marriage” and they do not attempt to make things look better than they are. This is their real lives, even if it is hard to watch. Fortunately, Emily and Shane knew that they wanted to salvage what they had and chose to go to therapy. She had this to say:

“[But] I think at the end of the day, I married my best friend.”

    Viewers Are Over Shane

It feels like a long time coming, but RHOC viewers are over Shane Simpson. After reading that it was “stressful” for him to parent, they had no empathy for him. Moreover, they could not believe that Emily Simpson was defending his behavior. Others just felt that she was using her marriage as a storyline:

    • So, being a father is stressful? Say it ain’t so. Taking care of your kids is called parenting.
    • Will this be the sixth season of Emily claiming she’s having marital issues with Shane? Storyline!
    • Emily was miserable before. Imagine her now when she can’t just pull a sandwich out of her purse because she is “health conscious”. Hangry 24/7.
