Soulwax postpone Meltdown appearance in London tonight due to “unforeseen circumstances”

Soulwax have postponed their appearance at London’s Southbank Centre tonight (June 21) due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

The Belgian duo had been scheduled to play at the Royal Festival Hall as part of the Harry Styles-curated Meltdown Festival, with Pauli The PSM also on the bill. Tonight marks the final night of the programme, which kicked off on June 11.

Ticketholders were informed this afternoon, however, that the event had been postponed, with organisers saying they were “continuing to work with the artist to reschedule the performance”. They said they would be back to customers in due course with any further information.

Styles’ curation of the annual event included a number of big names from alternative music, including Warpaint, who opened proceedings on June 11, Stephen Fretwell, Nilüfer Yanya, Orlando Weeks, Bar Italia, Dev Hynes, Jon Hopkins, Getdown Services and LCD Soundsystem‘s James Murphy.

Styles himself played on June 16 alongside the Jules Buckley Orchestra and the House Gospel Choir, and described the entire Meltdown event as ”an incredibly special week for me”.

Soulwax, made up of brothers David and Stephen Dewaele, returned after a seven year break with their new album ‘All Systems Are Lying’ in October, a record they first teased with billboards around London.

Described as a “live, loud and loose” album built from electronic instruments rather than guitars, it included the singles ‘New Earth Time’, ‘Gimme A Reason’ and ‘Meanwhile On The Continent’, as well as classic ‘Nite Version’ remix versions, and it was followed by a UK and European tour.

In February, they announced the first ever ‘After Hours’ rave at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London, which gave 300 fans the chance to hear freshly recorded music in rare circumstances at the historic venue.

The following month, they shared a documentary and their full set from the night, before releasing ‘Perfect We Are Not’, a track written, recorded, cut to vinyl and premiered during the ‘After Hours’ set.
