The View is relocating ahead of Season 28 and no expense has been spared on the new set. However, not everyone at ABC is thrilled about the change. In fact, some of the staff are enraged about the major cost. You may be surprised to find out why.
150 People Fired & ABC Is Spending Like Crazy
About $10 million was spent to get the new set ready for its debut in September. A source close to the production team on The View told The U.S. Sun that the new Manhattan studio is costing the network an arm and a leg.
“They’re in the process of moving all the rest of the cast and crew’s personal items from the old ABC studios uptown to their new studios downtown,” the source said. “People are furious about the move. Another 150 people got fired at the start of this month meanwhile The View is spending $10 million on a brand-new set.”
The insider continued, saying that the show’s producers are trying to cover up how much is being spent. That said, everything on the set is new. They didn’t reuse anything from the previous studio.
“They aren’t telling everyone it’s a brand-new set, because they don’t want to upset everyone getting let go,” the insider revealed. “But they are not bubble-wrapping things to bring over, this is all new. New View table, new chairs, brand new background, all designed from scratch.”
It is a multi-million-dollar set and the insider quipped that “even the mugs are new!”
A preview for Season 28 of The View was released on Wednesday. The new promo video showed Sara Haines, introducing viewers to the “hottest new studio” to match the show’s hot topics.
Whoopi Goldberg Isn’t Thrilled About Her New Digs
There are a lot of changes happening at ABC right now, and it’s causing plenty of drama. It was leaked that there has been some bickering among Good Morning America anchors over dressing rooms at their new location. The same is true of the ladies on The View.
Whoopi Goldberg apparently isn’t impressed with her digs at the new studio. The talk show veteran is mad about the dressing room she’s been assigned.
“It’s so small, and she doesn’t have her own bathroom,” an insider disclosed. A second source said that she preferred her more luxurious dressing room at the old studio.
“Whoopi had the biggest dressing room with an ensuite including a shower and full bathroom,” they added. She was the only person on The View other than fellow veteran host Joy Behar to have her own bathroom.
“She had a large table in her room, so she would hold the morning meetings and all the ladies would have to go to Whoopi’s in the morning,” the source revealed.
Whoopi Goldberg doesn’t plan to put up with it though. She is reportedly moving her production office, which is currently near the old studio. It will be moved right next door to the new location.
It was disclosed that Whoopi is planning to use her own dressing room at her production studios and avoid using the accommodations ABC has provided.
The View kicks off Season 28 on Tuesday, September 3 at 11 a.m. EST.
