Philadelphia shoegaze band They Are Gutting a Body of Water have announced a sprawling new mixtape with quite the assortment of guest features. Kool Faith / Loosies II is out digitally on October 16 and physically on November 20 via ATO/Julia’s War. The 29-song release boasts collaborations with Spirit of the Beehive, Hotline TNT, RXK Nephew, and dozens more. Kool Faith / Loosies II wrangles together some of the band’s fellow DIY shoegaze rockers, several labelmates on Julia’s War, and other artists in their orbit: Greg Mendez, Horse Jumper of Love, FearDorian, Full Body 2, LUCY (Cooper B. Handy), Options, Dead Sullivan, Cooking, Hooky, A Country Western, Total Wife, Fib, Scarlet Rae, Toner, Haloplus, Morgan Garrett, and more.
“The word mixtape initially meant a homespun tape that you typically listened to yourself or gave to somebody else,” said bandleader Doug Dulgarian. “For me who was born later, it meant mashups of all my favorite artists by local DJs. And so that’s what I did with this one, mashups of all my favorite artists. Shoutout DJ WHITEOWL, RIP.”
They Are Gutting a Body of Water released their most recent album, Lotto, last October. Next month, the band heads out on a headlining tour of the United States that lasts on through to December.
