Tori Spelling was a nepo baby before the term was even coined. She’s the daughter of the legendary television producer Aaron Spelling. As a child, she made guest appearances on some of his shows. Her breakout role came as Donna Martin on Beverly Hills, 90210.
After the show ended, the actress wanted to move away from the teen drama. She was nearly fired from one of her first post-90210 roles after a bitter clash with the director. Keep reading for all the details.
Tori Spelling Nearly Fired From Movie After Clashing With Director
Tori Spelling auditioned for the role of Donna Martin under a pseudonym so the casting directors wouldn’t know who her famous father was. She was actually very close to her dad despite her deception. She later feuded with her mother for years after her father’s death.

Tori Spelling remained on Beverly Hills 90210 for all ten seasons. When the show ended in 2000, she wanted to expand her resume into comedy. She accepted a role in the sci-fi comedy Evil Alien Conquerors in 2003. However, it was a terrible experience. She shared more details on Stephen Baldwin’s One Bad Movie podcast about the terrible experience she had on set.
Michael Weston, Diedrich Bader, and Chris Parnell also starred in the movie. The movie was directed and written by Chris Matheson. “All I know is I had a big furry unibrow and furry feet, and I was one of the girlfriends, and it was just I was so excited,” Tori Spelling said about taking the role. However, her excitement quickly disappeared after clashing with the director.

“From the moment I stepped on set, it was like I couldn’t say one word without the director being like, ‘Uh, Tori, can you do that again?’” she said on the podcast. Tori Spelling added that she was always asked to tone down her performance.
“Although I was in a drama for 10 seasons and did other work, my comedy was on point, like I was a comedian and am a comedian,” she said about her reaction to the criticism. It was such a bad experience that she hoped to get fired. In fact, her role ultimately went uncredited.
Evil Alien Conquerors Director Responds
Tori Spelling went on to star in more television and movie roles. She also shared an unfiltered look at her real life on reality television. She recently quit the 90210 rewatch podcast she’s co-hosted with Jennie Garth for years. But she considers the experience on Evil Alien Conquerors the worst in her career.
PEOPLE magazine reached out to the director for a comment. “I’m sorry she felt that way. I like Tori personally. I just think we have some different ideas about comedy,” Chris Matheson told the outlet. Tell us in the comments if you think she’s overreacted to the feedback on her performance while filming the movie.
