    • ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ earned more than $144 in its second weekend.
    • ‘The Odyssey’ passed a billion.
    • Rom-com ‘One Night Only’ was third.

With a host of records in its wake –– including the best second weekend for a Sony movie and becoming the quickest movie this year to reach (and soar past) a billion dollars, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is showing no signs of slowing down.

The latest outing for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker earned $144.5 million this weekend, a 60% drop. By the end of the weekend, the movie should have an estimated $655 million, helped by the fact it was able to secure some IMAX screens as ‘The Odyssey’s stranglehold eased.

‘The Odyssey’ continued to do its own big business, falling $38% but still making its own journey across the billion-dollar mark and has become director Christopher Nolan’s highest-grossing movie at the box office.

The rest of this week’s new releases were left in the dust, but a couple did business. High concept rom-com ‘One Night Only’ landed third with $5.7 million, while ‘Super Troopers 3’ was fourth on $4 million.
