- Doyle is well-known for his roles in sci-fi series such as The Expanse and Star Trek: Discovery.
Chemist Leo Ahlquist, played by Shawn Doyle, is the mysterious figure seen in a 25-year-old photograph at the heart of Reacher Season 4’s conspiracy. Warning: Spoilers ahead for Reacher, Season 4 Episode 6:
His identity is revealed in Episode 6 by Russell (Kevin Weisman), moments after being shot in the chest during the restaurant ambush, who recognizes him. Reacher (Alan Ritchson) and Tamara (Sydelle Noel) soon discover that Leo is the CEO of Plutus Chemical and track him down.
At Plutus, they find Leo seemingly destroying evidence. He reveals that Nolan Cahill (Chris Owens), one of the other men in the photograph, called him days earlier about the data leak. But rather than explain what’s really going on, Leo makes it clear that he knows far more than Reacher does. He proves it by calling in mercenaries to take care of Reacher and Tamara while he escapes. But before he can make a clean getaway, he monologues for a bit, showing off his villainous side.
“This all could have been avoided, you know,” Leo tells him, saying Reacher should have walked out of the police station three days earlier, gotten a cheesesteak, and left Philadelphia. “But you didn’t. And now you’re going to die for it, and you’ll never even know why.”
He then drops an even bigger clue: “You have no idea what that photo really contains, do you?”
Before Reacher can get an answer, Leo tells his muscle to make quick work of the duo as he flees, leaving the question: What exactly is in that photograph? And more importantly: Why does Leo look so familiar?
Shawn Doyle is a familiar face of film, television, and stage, especially in the sci-fi realm. Fans of The Expanse will recognize him as politician and antagonist Sadavir Errinwright, who served as the Undersecretary of Executive Administration for the United Nations and secretly collaborated with Jules-Pierre Mao (François Chau) to weaponize the Protomolecule.

Doyle also played the arrogant yet brilliant Risan Dr. Ruon Tarka on Star Trek: Discovery, who was brought in as a Federation advisor to help Commander Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp) investigate the destructive Dark Matter Anomaly.
For folks who prefer drama, Doyle is best known for his role on HBO’s Big Love as Joey Henrickson, the younger brother of Bill Henrickson (Bill Paxton). A former Dallas Cowboys player and family golden boy, Joey was married to the deeply troubled Wanda (Melora Walters), who had a disturbing habit of turning to poison whenever things got tough.
Doyle was also a familiar face on the Canadian drama series Endgame, where he played chess master Arkady Balagan, as well as The Eleventh Hour and 24. His lengthy résumé also includes appearances in House of Cards, Hannibal, Fargo, Lost, Desperate Housewives, and The Comey Rule, among many others.
Now, Doyle can add Reacher to that list.
