7 Burning ‘Bridgerton’ Questions Season 5 Needs to Answer
Netflix
Bridgerton Season 5 may not arrive until 2027, but it’s never too early to examine what lingering questions remain after Season 4 of Netflix‘s Shondaland hit.
As fans will recall, the season centering on the love story between Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Sophie (Yerin Ha) made way for hints of what’s to come, particularly with the shocking death of John (Victor Alli) and the blossoming connection between his cousin, Michaela (Masali Baduza), and his wife, Francesca (Hannah Dodd). While the women are poised to take Season 5’s leading roles, we’re still left wondering about a few different storylines that were left hanging by the time Season 4’s finale wrapped.
Scroll down for a closer look at the burning questions we’re eager to see answered when the series brings us back to the Ton, and let us know what you hope to see in the comments section below.

Where did Michaela go?
As fans may recall, Michaela was visiting John and Francesca when he died, and remained by Francesca’s side during the mourning period. When Francesca asked Michaela to stay longer, she ultimately left without an explanation. We’re hoping Season 5 will quickly uncover what called her away.

Who is the new Lady Whistledown?
Penelope Bridgerton (Nicola Coughlan) gave up the pen as gossip columnist Lady Whistledown in Season 4, only for someone new to pick it up. Could it be Alice Mondrich (Emma Naomi), Hyacinth (Florence Hunt) or someone else? The possibilities seem endless, but surely the audience needs to be clued in sooner rather than later.

Will Violet rekindle her romance?
The Bridgerton family matriarch Violet (Ruth Gemmell) pursued romance with fellow widower Marcus Anderson (Daniel Francis) in Season 4, but ultimately refused his proposal. Does that mean her heart is closed to love, or will she reconsider the offer? It feels like this chapter wasn’t closed the last time we saw her in action.

Where is Lady Danbury?
Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) memorably asked Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) to take a leave of absence from the Ton, and she was ultimately granted as much by the time Season 4 concluded. Will Season 5 uncover where she went when the show returns? We’re hopeful to catch a glimpse of her latest adventure.

How will the show adapt When He Was Wicked?
Bridgerton Season 5 will be the first to change the gender of one of the main love interests from Julia Quinn’s novels, bringing fans their first leading same-sex romance to the franchise. We’re more than ready for the change-up, but are admittedly curious how the show might adapt parts of the novel that serve as the source material. Whatever the team comes up with, we’ll surely be swooning.

How will Season 5 set up the next chapter?
Season 4 of Bridgerton laid some good groundwork for Season 5’s main love story, leading us to wonder how Season 6 might be set up with the latest story. While we’re anticipating Eloise’s (Claudia Jessie) romance being the one to take center stage, we’ll be keeping a close eye out for potential clues as Francesca and Michaela’s story unfolds.

Will a spinoff be set up?
The audience yearns for a spinoff after Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, and with Shonda Rhimes‘ recent deal with Netflix, we’re hopeful Season 5 may pave the way for another side exploration within the Bridgerton universe. Whether it’s the highly-desired Violet spinoff or something delving deeper into Lady Danbury’s life, will Season 5 finally set up the next series? We hope so!
