Ryan Seacrest got confused and interrupted Vanna White while she played a game with former Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak, while he thought she was talking to him on the phone.
“Had to call in some reinforcements… Shhh, don’t tell Pat,” the Instagram post on September 25 was captioned.
In a behind-the-scenes video of the game show, White told social correspondent Maggie Sajak that she was playing Words With Friends with her dad. “Oooo. How’s it going? He’s really good at word games,” Sajak said.
White said she had played a lot of games against Pat and that he has won most of them. She said that she’s won a few, but Sajak offered to help White and said she wouldn’t tell her dad.
As they tried to come up with a good word to beat Pat with, Ryan Seacrest walked up to the women. “What’s going on here?” he asked.
“We’re playing my dad in Words With Friends,” Sajak explained. “We’re playing together, so it’s a group effort because he always wins.”
The score was 73 (Pat) to 39 (Vanna). As the women played, Seacrest leaned over White’s phone and said, “Hey! Pat! Paaaat!” But obviously the former host didn’t answer because he wasn’t on the phone. Sajak giggled at Seacrest’s shenanigans.
By the end of the video, Pat had won the game. “Come on!” she said to the camera. “Can’t you let me win more often?”
Seacrest called out to her to see if she was ready to film the next episode, and she said, “Wait! I’m busy. I’m busy playing Words With Friends.”
This video came the same week that the game show collaborated with Words With Friends. Their Crossword puzzles were in the classic yellow and pink style of the game, and some of the spaces on the board were Double and Triple Letter score.
“It warms my heart to know that our Wheel father and mother are both true blue word nerds!” a fan commented.
“Enjoying the new format!” one fan said. The theme may make a comeback in the future, but it only lasted one week this season.
“I want to play Words With Friends with Vanna and Pat!” many fans said.
