The Chicks Postpone Los Angeles Concert Due to Illness

The trio were set to take the stage at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre

Hours before the doors of Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre were scheduled to open, the Chicks announced that they were postponing the show due to illness.

The group made the announcement on Monday, Nov. 2, and said that the performance had been rescheduled to Wednesday, Nov. 4. All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date, and for those unable to attend, refunds will be available at point of purchase, read a statement shared by the Chicks.

Fans, including many who had traveled out of state for the event, took to the comments to share their dismay over the announcement. “Hope someone feels better! My friends and I planned for this months in advance, traveled 4+ hours and can’t attend Wednesday date,” read one comment. “Sooo bummed!”

“Flew in from Canada with my mother in law and 15 year old daughter. I saw your show in Vancouver in 2006, 20 years ago,” another lamented. “We go home tomorrow, will miss the Wednesday show. Really sad news. Take care.”

The Chicks are currently wrapping their Taking the Long Way 20th anniversary tour in celebration of their album. The LP was the first the band released since Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines said that she was “ashamed” that Bush was from Texas (their home state) and denounced the Iraq War in 2003. The onstage comments triggered a wave of backlash from the media and fans alike as their songs were pulled from country radio stations and American audiences boycotted the Chicks’ shows. The band was jeered at during live appearances and some angry listeners even bulldozed over piles of their CDs.

The controversy and the Chicks’ reaction to it is the major theme of the first tracks of the album, which spawned the single “Not Ready to Make Nice,” where they vowed to keep speaking out regardless of the consequences. The Chicks later earned five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.
