Viewers saw Outer Banks release its final season. Since then, one of the cast members has opened up about the upside to walking away from a series. This was Chase Stokes, who also opened up about his health in this recent admission.
Chase Stokes Brought John B. Routledge To Life On Outer Banks
Stokes is an actor who got his start appearing in episodes of Stranger Things and Daytime Divas. For many, his big break was playing John B. Routledge on Outer Banks.
Outer Banks revolves around the namesake North Carolina area, where there is a divide between the working-class locals and the more affluent seasonal residents. The Netflix series debuted its fifth and final season on August 20, 2026.

Recently, now that the series has ended, Stokes has opened up about taking a bit of a break from acting. At the time, he also opened up about learning about several health issues he was dealing with.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Stokes shared, “I had so much s*** wrong. I left that show … [and] my liver was failing, my kidney was failing. I had so many health issues that I had to figure out, and my brain was all out of whack.”
The Actor Opened Up About A Few Treatments He’s Been Receiving, Including Weekly Blood Tests
Stokes shared that he chose to focus on his health instead of jumping back into work. This included receiving blood tests every other week. This also meant undergoing transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy, which uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. This procedure is done to treat symptoms of depression.
According to this actor, his testosterone levels were “alarmingly low” for someone his age. As he continued, “It was a really important time for me to get my bearings right versus just go back into work and mask it. It’s been a lot of work to get back to baseline, and it was definitely scary for a little bit.”

Stokes also felt that it was healthy to finally step away from his Outer Banks persona. As he explained, “I’ve been John B more than I’ve been Chase. At 33, playing a 19, 20-year-old kid who’s been who he is, I needed to go find myself.”
