Sherri Shepherd Reveals New Career After Talk Show Cancellation

Sherri Shepherd Reveals New Career After Talk Show Cancellation

Sherri Shepherd co-hosted The View for seven seasons. She won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show Host alongside Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Walters, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. She left the ABC talk show in 2014. The comedian was given a daytime talk show in 2022 to replace Wendy Williams.

But viewers will soon see Sherri Shepherd return to TV. She announced the exciting news that she landed a starring role in a Lifetime movie. It will be a huge departure for her due to the seriousness of the topic. The movie Angel in the Rubble is based on the true story of the last survivor rescued from the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001.

The movie is produced by Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts’ Rock’n Robin production company. It’s the fourth movie under the Robin Roberts Presents banner. Both Sherri Shepherd and the GMA host serve as executive producers in the movie.

Robin Roberts was MIA from the ABC talk show in June while overseeing production on the movie in Cape Town, South Africa. Sherri Shepherd takes on the role of Genelle Guzman, a NYC transit worker who was trapped for 27 hours, buried under the rubble after the collapse of Tower One. She was the last survivor found after both towers went down.

“She was buried alive for 27 hours, buried under 13 feet of concrete. The film is about how she found God,” Sherri Shepherd told HelloBeautiful about the movie. The former talk show host credited Robin Roberts for stepping in during contract negotiations.

“I want to shout out Robin Roberts because, like Taraji P. Henson said, you’ve got to ask for what you’re worth. I asked for it, and they said no,” Sherri Shepherd revealed.

She’s Also Writing A Book

Angel in the Rubble premieres on Lifetime in September to mark the 25th anniversary of the attacks. Sherri Shepherd shared her plans for after the movie. She’s writing another book. The comedian released three books already but the fourth one has a special place in her heart.

It’s her debut novel. “I have a novel coming out called ‘Life Is a K-Drama’ because everybody who knows me knows my obsession with K-dramas and K-pop,” she said.

Sherri Shepherd teased the novel’s storyline. “It’s about Keisha, who owns a soul food restaurant in Harlem. She gets hooked up with somebody in Seoul, Korea, because they want her recipe to go viral.”

The novel, co-authored by Jaycie Lee, comes out in early 2027. Stay tuned for more details on that and an airdate for the Lifetime movie.
